Only one in five of Stark County’s registered voters went to the polls for this primary election. The light turnout (20 percent) was expected by election officials, considering the sparse number of issues and candidates on ballots. Canton and Massillon hosted only partial party primaries, while Alliance held none. The only issue that appeared on the ballots of all 54,137 people who voted was the Stark County Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities levy — which won in a landslide.Still, the turnout was higher than four years ago, in a similar type election, when 45,916 people voted.
